ACRF Biomolecular Resource Facility

Core services provided by the BRF are DNA sequencing, GeneChip microarray, MALDI-TOF/TOF mass spectrometry, MHC-tetramer and peptide synthesis.

NEWS
New Chromatography equipment
The MF10 was awarded to Marco Casarotto in this year's small equipment grant for health and medical research and is housed in the BRF. This is a unique instrument that can perform small scale pre-fractionation, separating samples into serveral smaller groups of proteins based on charge and size, thereby increaseing the chance of low abundance protein isolation or identification.

Imaging
MultiGauge version 3.0 has been released for PC users. This imaging software is used for the FujiFilm LAS1000/FLA300 equipment. If people would like this software on their computers, please contact Stephen Ohms in the facility.

Mass Spectrometry
In 2008 provider contracts are available for high end users. Please contact Peter Milburn (peter.milburn@anu.edu.au) about this service.

About us

The aim of the Biomolecular Resource Facility is to provide researchers with access to DNA and protein technologies that would not normally be readily available to individual research groups. Services are provided to researchers at JCSMR and the ANU as well as the broader regional scientific community. In addition a consultancy service on all aspects of protein and peptide technology (mass spec, sequencing, chromatography, purification and peptide synthesis), DNA sequencing and real-time (quantitative) PCR is available.

Our challenge as a Resource Facility is to continue to provide cost-effective services in our core areas as well as improving our efficiency and service delivery and developing new technologies to keep researchers at the forefront of scientific discovery.

The BRF is staffed by a Manager, two Technical Specialists, several Technical Officers and an Administrative Assistant, and is overseen by a Users Committee comprising academics from JCSMR, RSBS and the Faculty of Science. The committee, in conjunction with the Manager, is responsible for governance, policy, and purchasing and replacement of equipment.
